Rental property demand surges online

There were over 128,000 enquiries sent to live property listings across the UK in the week ending July 31st according to Gumtree.

Rental demand remains sky-high, especially in city centres and popular commuter belts they report, with around 41,000 listings going live each day, with 8,262 new listings added that week alone.

Kim Faura, Consumer Expert at Gumtree, said: “These numbers highlight just how busy the market is right now. For renters, it's a sign to act quickly and be prepared when searching — many listings are seeing multiple enquiries within hours. It’s important to set up instant alerts to catch listings early and ensure you have all your documents ready to go.”

The “Property to Rent” category accounted for over 91,000 of those enquiries, the most active segment by far and the average listing with enquiries received more than five messages from interested renters.
