Manchester city council intends to redevelop an 84-acre east Manchester site into new urban village.
The Bradford Road Triangle area, just a mile from the city centre next to the Sportcity complex, will be generated into what is likely to be a mixed-use commercial and residential scheme.
Tom Russell, chief executive of New East Manchester, said: "Initial studies have shown that regeneration of the Bradford Road Triangle is commercially viable and will create a high-quality urban community, providing a bridge between the city centre and the more residential areas of Miles Platting and Beswick. Building on the regeneration of the Ashton Canal Corridor, this is yet another phase of the renewal process that will transform this part of the city."
A Metrolink tram stop may also be included as part of the proposed Oldham and Rochdale Metrolink extension.
