1,300 new homes set for Tangmere

Countryside Properties (part of the Vistry Group) has been given the green light by Chichester District Council for the delivery of over 1,000 high quality new homes and community facilities in Tangmere.

Known as the ‘Tangmere Strategic Development Location Site’ the development will see 1,300 new homes in addition to a new primary school and community and commercial facilities.

Martin Leach, managing director, Vistry Strategic Land, said: "Receiving formal outline planning permission is a significant step in realising the vision for Tangmere. We remain committed to working closely with Tangmere Parish Council and local residents to produce a Design Code that will guide the next phase of this transformative development."

The scheme had initially received a resolution to grant planning permission in March 2021, however due to the complexities of the Compulsory Purchase Order process and subsequent amendments to the site’s planning application boundary, the outline application was revisited. In August 2023, it again secured a resolution to grant permission from the planning committee. Issuing of the formal decision notice now marks a significant milestone, enabling the project to advance to its next stage of delivery.

The project will now proceed to the detailed reserved matters application phase, focusing on the design and layout of the homes and facilities, with infrastructure construction expected to start in 2026, with construction on the broader development planned for late 2026.
