New affordable homes set for Loughton

Network Homes is transforming surplus land in Borders Lane, Loughton, into 107 affordable homes as part of their first development in Essex.

The scheme is Network’s first project in a new partnership with Epping Forest District Council as one of their preferred partners to deliver new affordable housing. Contracts were exchanged in December 2021 as part of a section 106 deal with developer Fairview New Homes which will see a total of 424 homes built over two sites formerly owned by New City College.

David Gooch, Executive Director of Development at Network Homes, said: “We’re really excited to be getting underway with this development which will be our first scheme in Essex and the first as a preferred partner for Epping Forest District Council. It will deliver much needed affordable housing in Loughton and supports our aim of starting 1,000 affordable homes by March 2023. “

They will deliver 65 apartments for affordable rent and 42 for shared ownership with homes ranging from one bed to four-bedroom family sized properties.

Cllr Holly Whitbread, Portfolio Holder for Housing Services at Epping Forest District Council, said: “I would like to welcome Network Homes as our newest preferred provider of affordable housing. I hope it is the first of many opportunities to work in partnership with Epping Forest District Council as we strive to provide much needed, good quality, affordable family homes across the district.”

Work has already started the first phase, with residents due to move in from Autumn 2023, and all new homes set to be completed by Autumn 2025.
