Shaw Corporation acting on behalf of Barkwest Limited, has secured a unanimous resolution to grant planning permission for the Devonshire Square development at the London Borough of Southwark’s virtual Planning Committee.
The scheme is a new development of up to 565 new homes, including 40% affordable, with over 4,700 sqm of employment floorspace on the Old Kent Road opposite a planned new Bakerloo Line station to be located on the former Toys R’US site.
The new development will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of this part of the Old Kent Road Opportunity Area by providing the first significant new public open space for local residents to enjoy and new road and transport infrastructure upgrades.
The commercial space will be B1c floorspace, recreating a high street onto Old Kent Road, creating hundreds of new jobs, and providing shops and amenities for local residents.
The development is set to start in 2021.
