Developer chosen for new research facility

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is to get new state-of-the-art facilities after Kier was chosen as the winning bidder for the project.

The scheme will consist of three-storeys above ground and one basement level and provide 2,500 sqm of high-quality office and study space.

Cliff Thomas, managing director for Kier Construction London, said: “The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is recognised globally and we are proud to be working collaboratively with them to deliver this new building that will offer excellent facilities to some of the world’s leading scientists.

“We have extensive experience in delivering pioneering research facilities for organisations across the country that allows scientists to advance medical research. We look forward to delivering this new facility in the heart of London, a city known for ground breaking medical innovations.”

The first-class facilities will adjoin another of the LSHTM’s buildings in Tavistock Place, Bloomsbury, with an atrium as a focal point at the centre of the building.

Work is expected to start in winter 2018 with a scheduled completion date of 2020.
