Proposals for Taunton redevelopment shown to public

There has been a consultation on St Modwen and Taunton Deane Borough Councils redevelopment of one of Taunton's key regeneration sites - Firepool.

The proposed development will become a vibrant mixed use scheme with a waterfront setting and include offices, retail, cinema leisure, restaurants, hotel and new homes together with associated landscaping, public realm, infrastructure and parking.

Pete Davies, Senior Development Manager for St Modwen, said: "Firepool is a vital link in the chain of Taunton's wider regeneration plans and one of the biggest mixed-use schemes in the region, with the potential to create in excess of 1,800 jobs. The comprehensive mix of uses will include offices, hotel, residential development, cafes / bar-restaurants on the waterfront, cinema, supermarket and high quality shopping."

Part of the £105m Firepool site is already under development with 49 new riverside dwellings, comprising of 45 apartments and four 4 bedroom family homes being delivered. Waste company Viridor has also established its headquarters at Firepool alongside Pip's Park.

Cllr John Williams, Leader of the Council, said: "Taunton is one of the fastest growing towns in the region and has the advantage of excellent road and rail links, top quality schools and further education, first class medical facilities, great urban open spaces and superb countryside on its doorstep."
