This month in Property Investor News we have focused on what’s happening in the North of England, as landlords and investors are more and more shunning the South and buying in the North. Our lead article on page 12 takes an in depth look at why this is happening and what you should be looking for if you decide to jump on board the trend.
Also, on page 20, Adam Lawrence talks about why the North is the best place to be a landlord and the reason he has been looking at the Tees Valley in particular, over other areas.
These two articles accompany our regional article on page 36, which takes a look at what’s happening with regards to regeneration and development in West Yorkshire.
Our other main theme in this issue is HMOs. We have an article from Jack Jiggins on page 22, where he analyses the changes you need to make to stay ahead of the game in the HMO market, as it’s not just about volume anymore but quality. Jack also included two case studies.
On page 39 we have an article that looks at what tenant expectations are when renting a room in a HMO at the moment, and on page 42, Des Taylor has looked at the various legislation you need to be aware of, as not every HMO is the same and each sector has different rules you need to abide by.
Lucia Picinnini has cast her architect’s eye on high-rise building development in Central London on page 16, and covered what you need to be aware of post-Grenfell, especially if you are looking to develop such a building, and what delays can happen if you are not aware.
Talking of development, Ritchie Clapson, on page 26, has spoken about what you need to take note of when you are looking to get involved with property development, especially if you are short of funds.
David Kemp, on page 30, has updated us on what changes are coming to planning committees and how this could help or hinder your attempts to obtain permission for the development you are hoping to build.
On page 32 meanwhile, we’ve looked at the boom in self-storage and what you need to know on the planning front if you are thinking about investing in this sector.
Also on the commercial side of things, Suzi Carter has written about how AI is changing commercial property investing, and how you need to understand both the strengths and the limitations of using it.
