The UK’s most sought-after property features have been revealed in a new survey called Generational Property Hotspots, from McCarthy Stone, which aimed to uncover the latest trends in property, looking at popular locations and priorities for moving, the most sought-after features of the home and perceptions of the property market.
The research found that most Brits want parking spaces over glamorous aesthetics. With rising costs hitting motorists across the UK, it’s no surprise that street parking is the biggest turn-off for house hunters. Resident parking permits have seen an increase in price, with East Herts council raising the charge from £41 to £72 and Warwickshire up to £80.
Nearly two-thirds of people named a driveway as the most important property feature for their next move, with 63.9% prioritising a place to park their car. Similar logic was given to the second most popular choice, a garage, with 56.5% of the vote.
UK residents also deem a large garden as important (54.3%) whilst 51.6% said they’d like to look out from large windows. Up next in fifth place was having an attic, which 44.1% of surveyed Brits said they’d want.
The popularity of period features can also be noticed across the UK’s house-hunters, with two fifths of Brits seeking a home with a fireplace (42.3%) and 35.3% ranking high ceilings as an important factor.
