Airbnb partners with Roomonitor for noise detector programme

Airbnb has partnered with Spanish home automation startup Roomonitor to launch a programme that will distribute noise detectors to its hosts in Madrid and Barcelona.

As a result of the programme, a group of hosts in Madrid and Barcelona will be able to sign up to Roomonitor’s noise monitoring system for free for the first six months, which uses algorithms to analyse sound patterns, without accessing the living space’s audio.

Even though the presence of such devices can be used as a deterrent in some cases, according to Roomonitor, if the noise levels in the properties exceed the pre-established limit, the host will be receive a call and an alert on their phones, which allows them to intervene with the guest to avoid disrupting their neighbours.

Furthermore, the company offers a service in which night officers can visit properties when necessary to provide 24-hour monitoring and alleviate any issues in those situations.

Airbnb has been actively promoting the installation of noise detectors worldwide, including launching discount programmes for hosts that install them.
