ARLA Propertymark launches Tenant Fees toolkit for Welsh letting agents

ARLA Propertymark has launched a Tenant Fees Toolkit, following guidance from the Welsh Government last week on the Renting Homes (Fees etc.) (Wales) Act.

Available now to ARLA Propertymark members and designed to help members in Wales prepare for when the Tenant Fees Ban comes into effect on 1st September 2019, the Toolkit contains factsheets covering all aspects of the ban, and a series of short films to explore specific issues. It also includes a Tenant Guide, a case study from a Scottish letting agent looking at how they dealt with their ban, and practical tips to help agents deal with the loss of income.

Importantly, the Toolkit includes template legal documents; including additional clauses for tenancy agreements and Wales-specific Fee Templates. For Holding Deposits, there are template letters for when they need to be refunded, when it is forfeited, for transferring it into the first month’s rent and for when agents need more than 15 days to get everything sorted.

David Cox, chief executive at ARLA Propertymark, said the Toolkit will help members comply with the new Act and operate in a post tenant fees world. He added: “In less than two weeks, the ban comes into force, and therefore it’s crucial agents are well prepared and have implemented the necessary changes within their business to ensure they are compliant with the law.”
