The room lets website Spareroom say there has been an average 4% increase in room rents across the UK over the last twelve months.
In London the fastest rent rises were in West Central postcodes, where average rents have increased by over 4.9% since last year, and are up by 2.35% in the last quarter alone.
Scotland is at the forefront of many of the highest rent rises, with Aberdeen room rents up 12.75% in the last year, though they’ve fallen by almost 7% in the most recent quarter.
Significant rises have also been recorded in Inverness, Paisley, Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy. While across in Northern Ireland, Belfast has also been seeing big rises, with rents per room up over 7% just this last quarter, and by 9% since last year.
However some tenants are making savings compared with last year’s advertised rents in some unusual places – as Spareroom report that EC postcodes in the City of London have seen falls of over 5% since 2012, and that West London is also slightly cheaper than last year, although this quarter room rents have risen by over 5%.
