A Nottingham landlord has been left facing a huge repair bill after one of his properties was used to grow cannabis plants with a street value of £200,000.
Jack Carr rented out his house in Foxearth Avenue in Clifton and had no idea what was happening at the property until he received a call from police advising him that they had raided the property and discovered a cannabis farm with 268 plants.
The farm has caused extensive damage to the house, but Mr Carr has been advised he is not able to claim under his insurance as it is not covered under by policy.
In a statement Mr Carr's insurer, Towergate Insurance, said: “It is vital for anyone buying insurance to check very carefully the precise cover their policy provides so that it meets their requirements. Unfortunately the let property policy purchased by Mr Carr clearly stated that it will not respond to damage caused by illegal activity to his property.”
As a result of this M Carr cannot afford the repairs and due to its current state he can not rent out the house, but still has to pay the mortgage.
Nottinghamshire Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class B drug.
