TCPA believes Darling’s announcement will benefit the construction industry

The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has welcomed plans announced by Chancellor Alistair Darling in the pre-budget report for an additional £100m fund for insulation.
The TCPA believes this will create thousands of jobs in the construction industry by insulating homes in the social and private sectors.

Gideon Amos, TCPA’s chief executive, said: “With escalating fuel bills this winter and the pressing need to improve our housing stock in the face of climate change the Government is right to introduce measures designed to improve the energy efficiency of our homes.”

Speaking about the low carbon economy, the Chancellor pledged £535m specifically for green measures, including energy efficiency, flood protection and more trains, which the Government hopes will create more “green collar jobs”.

Amos added: “In the current economic downturn it is vital the Government remains committed to its goals both for housing and for the environment - particularly addressing climate change. Moving towards a low carbon economy in this way has the potential to create exciting new business opportunities, stimulating jobs, improving the efficiency of our buildings, creating new sources of clean energy and helping protect those most at risk of fuel poverty.”
