The UK population is 1.4m more than official estimates, according to the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR).
Official figures claim that the UK population recently passed 60 million’, but CEBR reports that figure was more then likely to have been reached five years ago. Instead, CEBR believe that true figure today is closer to 61.5 million.
With the supply of housing in the UK already struggling to keep pace with increasing demand, property prices are likely to continue rising.
Douglas McWilliams, chief executive at CEBR, says: “What will bring the worst of all worlds is to have the immigration but not the infrastructure which will condemn all of us to traffic jams, rising house prices and overcrowding in schools, hospitals and elsewhere."
