Riskier investments attracting higher levels of bank lending

Bank lending for speculative commercial development projects rose by over 40% in 2005, according to recent research conducted by De Montfort University.

The University’s latest annual commercial bank lending survey reveals that banks are lending more money on investments that are considered speculative. In the region of £5bn was loaned out to finance riskier commercial development investments during the course of 2005.
