Property prices appreciate most in Truro

The city of Truro has recorded the highest residential property price rise in the UK, over the past decade, according to the Halifax.

The research shows that house prices in Truro rose by 262% from £518psm in 1996 Q1 to £1,876psm in 2006 Q1.

London, where the average property price cost £3,582psm, remains the UKs most expensive city, followed by Oxford (£2,741 psm), St Albans (£2,716 psm), Winchester (£2,572), Brighton (£2,313) and Bath (£2,271). There are twelve cities in total, where average residential property prices are above the £2,000psm threshold. Armagh, where average property prices cost £1,009psm, is the least expensive city in the UK.

Martin Ellis, Chief Economist at Halifax Estate Agents, said: "Smaller cities, with an average population of less than 250,000, like Truro, Brighton and Bath have generally recorded the largest increases in average house prices per square metre over the past ten years. This highlights that many households want the conveniences of city living, such as good shopping, transport links and easy commuting whilst living in attractive surroundings."
