Office rents in Londons West End is set to surge next year, because of a dearth of new developments, according to Great Portland Estates.

The company reports that there is just 5.7 million sq ft of new top-quality office space in the pipeline between now and December 2008, which would not be enough to cater for long-run average demand of 2.3 million sq ft a year.
