Despite being perceived as one of the worst Scottish locations in which to reside, property prices in the town of Coatbridge has risen by 36% within the last year (compared to a national average of 11%), according to the Bank of Scotland.

Jean Kelso of local estate agent, Robinson Moore, said: "The market has slowed, but Coatbridge surges on with five people chasing every house.

"New-builds brought people to the area and theyve been joined by their families who are very well served with facilities and leisure amenities. Coatbridges dark, industrial past is just that: a thing of the past."
