High-rise quarter approved for Manchester

An application by Renaker for a new high-rise quarter alongside the River Irwell has been approved by Manchester City Council.

The four acre 'Trinity Islands' site is split in two by the Trinity Way ring road and currently used as a car park. The scheme's towers, Ranging from 39 to 60 storeys in height, would be built in pairs on either side of the road.

In total, these would house 1,950 apartments which includes a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Also planned is a gym, 'drinking establishment', a residents' lounge and a ground floor 'commercial' space.

A Renaker representative said: "It will bring significant benefits for the wider economy and generate a large number of new jobs throughout the construction period.

"Renaker is committed to providing employment opportunities locally for local labour.

"It will also bring much-needed new housing and a major piece of new infrastructure enjoyed by residents and visitors."

The project would result in £494m of investment, £10.3m of which would be for new public realm and over 4,000 construction jobs would be created over the nine year construction programme, with 9,400 in supply chains.

The scheme also comprises of 556 car parking spaces, which include 56 for disabled residents. As many as 20% would be fitted with electric vehicle charging points. Also proposed are 1,950 cycle spaces - one for each apartment.

Allied London had an application approved in 2017 to build five towers ranging from 26 to 67 storeys in height however Renaker has now revisited the proposals and had their own plans approved.
