144 new homes at Waverley applied for

Avant Homes has submitted plans to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council for 144 new homes at Waverley having secured the land.

The plans include a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom family homes, following the 5.2 hectares of land being sold to them in a deal completed at the end of 2020.

Jane Beckett, Planning Associate, said: “These plans represent a key part of the progress in the development of the Waverley new community – bringing much-needed family housing to this mixed use area.

“Waverley is Yorkshire’s largest brownfield regeneration site which is absolutely integral to the rejuvenation of this area, and supports the Government’s levelling up agenda, as well as its “build back better” campaign to drive recovery following the coronavirus pandemic.

“Developing good quality housing is an important part of realising this recovery. Avant Homes’ plans are high quality, sustainable and in harmony with the Core Strategy.”

The former colliery site has been remediated and restored and is already the site of 1,020 homes which are part of a new community that will eventually comprise over 3,000 homes.

Chris Coley, Avant Homes Yorkshire Managing Director, said: “Subject to planning, we are looking forward to further enabling the regeneration of Waverley by delivering more of Avant’s popular design-led homes at our proposed new development.”
