Former military hospital in Aldershot to be converted into homes

Weston Homes has purchased the Grade II listed Cambridge Military Hospital in Aldershot, a 12-acre (4.9 hectare) collection of magnificent Victorian and Edwardian buildings and intends to convert them into residential.

The £60m project will see the Cambridge Military Hospital site, located in Aldershot, converted into 140 new private sale homes, with converted and new build, including one, two and three-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses set in landscaped grounds.

With our proven historic building restoration expertise, Weston Homes will bring a new lease of life to these heritage buildings which are of national importance due to their military history, we will transform them into modern homes layered with the rich history and unique character of this historic site.”

Grainger plc selected Weston Homes to undertake the conversion of the Cambridge Military Hospital and ancillary buildings into a new residential address. The main Cambridge Military Hospital will provide 74 homes including apartments and houses, commercial/community facilities and grand communal foyers and spaces. There are plans for a feature penthouse in the landmark clocktower.

Gunhill House will be converted to provide 12 two and three bedroom apartments whilst the Gunhill Water Tower will provide two loft style apartments. And the Louise Margaret Hospital will be converted to provide refurbished and newly built apartments and houses.                

Around the restored heritage buildings there will be semi-private gardens and courtyards, open lawns and tree planting, creating a beautiful setting for the new residential development.

Weston Homes plan to start the restoration and conversion of the Victorian hospital and ancillary buildings in the summer of 2019, with the project anticipated to be phased over several years.
