£70m Sale Town Centre regeneration green lit

A planning application submitted to Trafford Council by planning and design consultancy Barton Willmore, on behalf of Maloneview, for their regeneration plans for The Square Shopping Centre in Sale was given the green light.

The £70m mixed-use regeneration scheme will revitalise Sale Town Centre with up to 3,400 sqm GIA of retail and leisure floorspace, a 2,000sqm six screen cinema as well as up to 202 new residential units (including affordable).

Ben Shaw, Planning Associate at Barton Willmore, said: “This is excellent news for Sale. The regeneration of this key town centre site will secure its future as a thriving retail and leisure destination delivering new and improved restaurants and cafés.

“The mix of new homes provides a positive contribution towards the borough’s housing needs, whilst the regeneration will bring over 190 new jobs to the town. This alongside, significant improvements and additions to the public realm will make Sale more accessible and desirable for the local community and drive visitors to the town ensuring it’s success.”

The scheme’s cinema and new restaurants will be clustered around a new scenic open space with significant works to Hereford Street and Springfield and Sibson Roads. The scheme will seek to attract premier retail and commercial brands and deliver hundreds of new jobs.

Mark Rebbeck, commercial director at Maloneview, said: “We are delighted that Trafford Council’s Planning and Development Management Committee have given our plans the green light. Residents and the business community of Sale have also got behind the regeneration, which will revitalise Sale Town Centre.”

“Our plans will help transform the area and provide local residents with retail and leisure facilities that will not only support the community but also help make Sale Town Centre a destination for people outside of the area to visit, shop and socialise with friends and family.”
