Barratt Developments is planning a new community of 2,450 new homes, which includes more than 800 affordable homes, on the outskirts of Bristol.
It will be built at Ladden Garden Village and will create thousands of jobs during construction.
Chris Burton, regional managing director for Barratt Developments, said: “As the UK’s leading housebuilder we are delighted to be developing such a large and prestigious site in the south west.
“Ladden Garden Village will create valuable new homes, provide a wealth of community facilities and employment space and it will support around 7,500 jobs over the lifetime of the development.”
Construction is due to start in spring 2018 with the 10-year project incorporating a new primary school, extra care housing a local centre and public open space.
The land at North Yate has been allocated for new housing and received outline planning permission in 2015.
