Student accommodation scheme applied for Swansea

Crosslane Student Developments has submitted a planning application in Swansea for a high-quality purpose-built £24m student accommodation development on The Kingsway.

The proposed six storey scheme, rising to 11 storeys in one corner of the property, will comprise 311 beds for students and is due for completion in time for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Lisa Timberlake, Development Manager, Crosslane Student Developments, said: “Crosslane is pleased to have submitted its planning application for a new student accommodation development on The Kingsway, Swansea. The proposed city centre scheme is close to the main shopping area and the city’s mainline train station, within very easy reach of both The University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the University of Swansea.

“At 311 beds, the scheme will have a significant impact in easing the supply/demand fundamentals for purpose-built student accommodation in the city, as the city’s two universities continue to invest heavily in their expansion.”

Swansea is a popular university town with approximately 21,000 students studying at its two established universities, the University of Swansea and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Both universities have recently committed to significant investments in and expansions to their campuses, such as the £450m investment at the University of Swansea Bay Campus.
