Mortlake's Stag Brewery, on the south bank of the Thames adjacent to Chiswick Bridge, is set to be redeveloped after current owners AB InBev brought the site to market.
The 21.2-acre riverside site represents one of South West London's most prominent development opportunities with property consultancy Gerald Eve appointed as sole agent to market the freehold.
An adopted planning brief, produced through discussions with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and the public, sets out a vision for the future redevelopment of the site as a high-density residential-led scheme. The aim of the planning brief is to create vibrant links between the river and the town, incorporating a mixture of uses including restaurants, cafés and small retail space alongside community leisure uses, a museum and boathouses.
Alex Gillington, partner at Gerald Eve overseeing the sale of the site, said: "With its riverside position and location within one of London's most-affluent and in-demand boroughs, this site is one of the capital's most exceptional development sites and as such is anticipated to generate considerable demand.
"The site's flexibility represents a unique opportunity to create a new destination in South West London, a new village heart for Mortlake that will radically transform the area with buildings and open public realm of the highest quality."
The site has a history of brewing beer and is near the finish line of the annual Boat Race between the rowing teams of Oxford and Cambridge universities. It currently includes 353,000 sq ft of existing accommodation associated with the brewing process, set across a number of non-listed buildings.
