Lewisham town centre to be transformed

A £210m development which will transform the face of Lewisham town centre has been unveiled.

The Lewisham Gateway scheme will deliver more than 700 new mixed-tenure homes, a new riverside park and hundreds of new jobs.

Michael Auger, regional director for Muse Developments, the developer behind Lewisham Gateway, said: "We have been working with our partners to bring this transformational scheme to life for more than a decade and it's a really significant point to be able to show work on the infrastructure and the first two buildings is well underway."

Two new residential blocks on site will deliver 193 homes, including the 25-storey Portrait London, and are the first of various multi-storey buildings proposed in the scheme. Portrait will comprise of suites, one, two and three bedroom high-quality apartments.

Lewisham Gateway is being delivered on land released by the Mayor of London, the London Borough of Lewisham and Transport for London. Engineers on the site are rerouting the Quaggy and Ravensbourne rivers, which will form the centre piece for the new green space Confluence Place, complete with shops, cafes and improved pedestrian-friendly access to the town centre. Work to replace an existing roundabout with a completely new road layout is also mid-way through completion.
