Derelict site in Trowbridge to be regenerated

Plans for a new retail and leisure scheme at Cradle Bridge have been given the go-ahead by Wiltshire Council's planning committee.
The plans are for a major project to transform the former Peter Black Toiletries factory at Cradle Bridge, Trowbridge, into a retail and leisure development. JLL submitted a planning application to Wiltshire Council on behalf of landowners MRMU and King Developments Ltd, proposing the redevelopment of the site, which has been vacant for many years.

Kevin Hunt, director at leading property consultancy JLL, said: "It is excellent news that the council has approved this scheme. This regeneration project will transform a key gateway site for Trowbridge, a site that has been derelict for many years, into a thriving hub of retail and leisure activity, bringing new jobs to the area. We expect work on the site to start soon and that the scheme will be trading by summer 2016."

The plans are for a retail-led redevelopment scheme that will see the site rejuvenated and will complement the recent regeneration of the St Stephens Place Leisure Park.

The scheme will include four shops with 150 car parking spaces. The developers have already confirmed that two of the units will be taken up by M&S Simply Food and Toby Carvery. The development includes plans for a new cycle and footbridge across the River Biss, is expected to be completed by the summer of 2016.
