Westfield and John Lewis have announced that John Lewis will anchor the planned Westfield London extension with a 230,000 sq ft department store which will create 600 new jobs.
The Westfield London extension at White City, Shepherd Bush will feature 600,000 sq ft of additional retail and 1,500 homes and is expected to create around 6,700 permanent new jobs. The new department store is expected to be a major attraction for customers, adding to the 27 million UK and tourist shoppers who visit Westfield London annually.
Andy Street, John Lewis Managing Director, said: "Our business in London has strengthened significantly over recent years. It is therefore right that we now move to open in Westfield London and bring our offer to customers in the west of the city."
The new John Lewis department store at Westfield London is expected to open in 2017.
Nicholas Botterill, leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, said: "The arrival of John Lewis at Westfield is further proof that White City is becoming unmatched as a centre for shopping and leisure.
We warmly welcome the creation of 600 jobs at the department store, which will bring even more visitors to the area and make a lasting contribution to its ongoing regeneration. This is fantastic news for local people, for the local economy and for the whole of west London."
