A revised planning application has been submitted for the regeneration of Brent Cross Cricklewood by Development Partners Hammerson and Standard Life Investments.
The revised plans contain three improvements which are included to help the scheme to be delivered, which comprise a new network of covered streets and spaces in and around Brent Cross for shoppers and local people, the introduction of a major new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the North Circular Road and the earlier delivery of some of the transport improvements across the whole area.
James Stevens, Head of UK Development at Standard Life Investments, said: "The positive public response just underlines what people have been telling us since the start of the summer. They want a local transport network that works for pedestrians, cyclists, cars and public transport users, alongside better shops and restaurants, new homes and jobs, modern schools and community facilities plus great parks and open spaces, which is what the wider Brent Cross Cricklewood masterplan will deliver."
A public consultation on the amendments took place over the summer for the three proposed changes with extremely positive results as residents are eager to see change in the area. Over 1,700 people attended the public exhibitions and an average of 87% of respondents supported each of the three proposed changes.
Cllr Richard Cornelius, Leader of Barnet Council, said: "This is a hugely important application for the borough and it is important that we get it right. The Planning committee will be scrutinising these changes closely."
If these amendments are approved, the Development Partners expect to start work on the first phase of the regeneration from late 2015.
