Four large sites in the South west of England have been sold by the MOD to be developed into large residential developments.
Three of the sites are located in Bath, Foxhill, Warminster Road and Ensleigh, and were put up for sale after becoming surplus to Defence requirements as was the site of the former Erskine Barracks in Wilton, Wiltshire.
Gordon Isgrove, Land and Development Director at GVA who advised on the sales, said: "The redevelopment of the sites as mixed use schemes, led by housing, are an important element for both local authorities to meet their housing numbers."
The huge 19.2 hectare Foxhill site, purchasedby Curo, has the potential for up to 700 homes, whilst the Warminster Road site has been bought by Square Bay and Firmstone Developments, and is a 6.85 hectare site with the potential for approximately 100 units, subject to planning. Ensleigh has been purchased by a subsidiary of IM Properties Plc, who plans to remediate and redevelop the 8.75 hectare site with around 250 units.
The 34.4 acre site in Wilton, near Salisbury was sold to Redrow Homes. The site has already been granted outline planning permission, and has the potential for the creation of 450 dwellings.
