Royal Greenwich council have resolved to grant planning permission for the £85m Cross Quarter regeneration scheme in Abbey Wood, London.
The scheme includes a 48,500 sqft Sainsbury's supermarket, 216 high quality private and affordable new homes, an 80-100 bed hotel, 5,000 square feet of start-up business accommodation, an Early Years nursery and a new public square with space for a public library.
Steven Glancy, Berkshire Investment Capital, said: "The decision is very positive news for the local community, who have been incredibly supportive of the plans. Cross Quarter will create a revitalised retail area adding £125m of value into the local economy over the next ten years. Importantly it will encourage more local people back to visiting and shopping in Abbey Wood, boost trade for existing retailers and, in addition, will create over 500 full and part time employment opportunities for local people. The unanimous decision by members to resolve to grant planning permission is a vote of confidence for Abbey Wood and we now look forward to making our plans a reality, starting with the demolition of existing buildings on the site."
The partners behind the proposals (Development Securities PLC, Berkshire Investment Capital and Gallions Housing Association) have been working closely with the local community for the past 12 months to ensure the final proposals meet with local aspirations.
