Prices for rental homes in Portugal increased by 4.7% in December 2024, compared to the same month in 2023. This means that renting a house in Portugal had a median cost of €16.2sqm at the end of December 2024, one of the highest values of all time, according to the price index produced by idealista.pt.
Among the 14 district capitals with representative samples, the price of houses for rent increased in 11 Portuguese cities in 2024, with Faro (13.9%), Santarém (13.6%), and Braga (13.3%) leading the climbs. Rents also increased in Funchal (5.2%), Porto (4.7%) and Lisbon (4.1%).
Lisbon continues to be the city where it is most expensive to rent a house, costing €21.8sqm, while rents are €17.7sqm in Porto and €15.3sqm in Funchal (Madeira) and €14.1sqm in Faro (Algarve).
