Hoteliers asked not to invest in Antalya

The tourism sector in Turkey has called on investors to stop establishing new hotels in the country’s southern holiday destination of Antalya, which hosts more than 10m tourists every year, as the province has become saturated with hotels.

As a result, the sector is facing a surge in hotel closures just before the beginning of the summer season due to fierce competition in the tourism sector.

Some tourism representatives are calling on investors to stop building hotels in Antalya and start seeking opportunities in Anatolia.

“If there is to be a hotel built, it should be in Anatolia,” Timur Bayindir, the president of the Association of Hotel Owners in Turkey (TUROB) told local press. “Tourism is not just opening hotels. There is a need for touristic facilities.”

With so many five star hotels offering discounted room rates this summer, the current situation does not bode well for UK property investors looking to rent out their apartments and villas in the resort.
