Private Rents Increased by 9.1%

The Price Index of Private Rents (PIPR) is a measure of private rent inflation for new and existing tenancies, provided by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Its most recent data release found that average UK private rents increased by 9.1% in the 12 months to November 2024, up from 8.7% in the 12 months to October 2024.

Private rents by country
In November 2024, the average private rent in Great Britain was £1,319 per month. This is £110 (9.1%) higher than 12 months previously.

Average rent for England was £1,362 in November 2024, up 9.3% (£116) from a year earlier. This annual rise was higher than in the 12 months to October 2024 (8.8%) and reflects a new record-high annual growth for England.

The average rent for Wales was £772 in November 2024, up 8.0% (£57) from a year earlier. This annual rise was higher than in the 12 months to October 2024 (7.9%). Wales’s annual inflation rate has been generally slowing since the record-high annual rise of 9.8% in November 2023.
