In this month’s magazine we have delved into the world of aviation, with our lead article on page 13 looking at the various airport expansions either proposed or approved by Government – who have encouraged their expansion - and the effect they will have on property prices, with Gatwick’s the most recent after Luton was approved earlier this year. There was some interesting analysis on the prospects for housing around Gatwick recently after the announcement and we delve into this in the article to see what effect the airport expansion might have on house prices during and after it is completed.
Adam Lawrence follows this up on page 24, where he analyses how large infrastructure projects affect local communities and the impact they have on housing, including the opportunities that present themselves to savvy investors.
On page 34 Richard Blanco looks at the state of the Renters’ Rights Bill as it makes its way through parliament, going back and forth between the Lords and Commons, with various changes either being removed or vetoed by the different sides, it’s back for a final time just after we go to press so we’ll bring an update online when that happens before it goes to Royal Assent in November.
Lucia Piccinini looks at a recent development on page 16 and the dilemma of whether investors should apply for approval or purchase pre-approved sites when deciding to undertake a development themselves.
Meanwhile on page 21, David Kemp presents a case study on the opportunities in town centres for small, brownfield redevelopment to existing commercial sites and how careful planning in a recent such development provides some important lessons when doing so.
On page 38 we take a look at Newcastle upon Tyne and what is being done to redevelop and regenerate the city, plus the current state of the housing market there.
Our fictional PIN fund returns on page 32, and unfortunately it has taken a bit of a beating recently after some positive growth in previous quarters. This time out, all companies recorded a loss, wiping out almost half of the gains made in Q2.
We look at the state of the property auction market, where, whilst there have been more lots and more money being raised, buyers are becoming more selective with what they are bidding on. Jay and Piotr delve into this on page 44.
There is of course quite a few other articles in this edition, including on page 26, where Ritchie Clapson takes us on a trip to our childhood. He then discusses what qualifications you need to be a property developer and essentially what skills you need to succeed.
