This month’s magazine focuses on climate change and how it affects the housing market, leading off with our main article on page 14, which looks at what the recent implications are of Trump taking the USA out of the Paris climate agreement and how his policies may impact UK property markets. In particular his love of trade tariffs, which could result in increasing inflation in the UK and ultimately higher mortgage rates.
Another key subject, which could affect many landlords, is the government publishing its Commonhold White Paper and the announced plans to bring the sale of new leasehold flats to an end. So, what does this mean for the owners of leasehold properties, both now and over the next few years? We look at what commonhold is on page 46.
Adam Lawrence looks at the current legislation around EPCs on page 20, what the current legislation is, with all the constant changes, and what to look for, either with your existing properties or ones you are looking at buying in the future, as they will no doubt have an effect on the property market.
We have two articles this month about the ongoing Renters’ Rights Bill, one from Maxine Fothergill, who offers her thoughts on what landlords need to know on page 40 and then on page 34 an opinion piece on what landlords need to do to prepare for its introduction, so all their ducks are in a row when it is.
On page 25, David Kemp looks at a recent HMO conversion project. With his keen eye for detail, he looks to help developers understand the right legislation, in particular around kitchen and cooking facilities, and how to avoid being under investigation from council planners.
We have taken a thorough look at Bristol this month on page 36. It’s a city in demand as there is a shortage of good quality student accommodation and plenty of development in the BTR sector looking to bridge the gap.
Last month, the Government announced it is intending to modernise the process of buying and selling homes, aiming at making transactions quicker and cheaper, so we have looked at what this means, and the likely digitalisation of the buying process, on page 24.
Finally, on page 28, Ritchie Clapson takes a trip down memory lane and looks at where you should think about looking to invest/develop property, especially if it’s your first
such endeavour.
Next month is the Property Investor Show, on 11-12 April at ExCel, and I am sure we shall see many of you there, if you haven’t got your tickets yet you can get them here at propertyinvestor.co.uk.
