Editor's Introduction November 2019

Richard Bowser comments

Some three and a half years after the Referendum in 2016, the ongoing saga of Brexit has led to the upcoming General Election in December. The front cover text of this edition focuses on some key issues which will likely influence many readers voting choice at the ballot box.

It’s probably fairly accurate to conclude that historically, many private landlords and property developers / entrepreneurs would have been more inclined to vote Conservative, but the controversial Section 24 tax change has left many landlords feeling politically in a void. Like it or not, all the main political parties are promoting policies which lean more towards tenants and first-time buyers not landlords or developers.

On page 28 we look at the implications of the proposed abolition of the Section 21 eviction process which has understandably caused a lot of anxiety and speculation. It’s clearly a political ‘hot potato’, so perhaps unsurprisingly given an upcoming Election, there was no mention of it in the recent Queens Speech in Parliament.
