Digitisation of the property market a priority says OPDA

The Open Property Data Association (OPDA) has stated it would like to the government to expedite the digitisation of the property market.

Maria Harris, Chair of the Open Property Data Association, said: "As we approach the Spring Statement, the Open Property Data Association (OPDA) urges the Government to prioritise the digitisation of property data as a key step in modernising the housing market. A more transparent and efficient system will reduce transaction times, cut costs, and provide greater certainty for buyers, sellers, and industry professionals.

“To achieve this, we’re calling for dedicated funding to support government departments and local authorities in digitising property data at source. Allocating budget for councils to digitise their property records will not only speed up transactions but also form the foundation for a smarter data ecosystem, empowering consumers to access and share their own property information.”

Currently 64% of consumers believe that at least 21% of property information is already available digitally, but in reality, less than 1% of this data is readily accessible in a truly digital format.

Maria Harris said: “The property market is long overdue for transformation. Our research shows that consumers are not only open to Digital Property Packs but are actively calling for them. With the Government’s commitment to digitisation, now is the time to push forward and ensure that buyers and sellers have the safe and trusted information they need at their fingertips.”

The same research reveals that 82% of consumers believe Digital Property Packs are a good idea, with 77% stating they would use one if available.
