North West Towns: Rental Market Report

Invariably any look at the market in the north west will be dominated by the major regional cities of Liverpool and Manchester. So this time let us take a slightly different approach and instead examine supply and demand, price, rent and yield trends, and future prospects for residential property in some of the main towns across the surrounding north west region.

Bolton
Bolton and its surrounding borough has a population of 262,400. Once a major textile town, with the industry employing a third of the population at peak, significant employers now include paper manufacturing, packaging, transportation, steel and construction as well as service industries such as call centres and IT.

The local authority is spearheading a £1bn regeneration plan for the town centre which hopes to create 20,000 jobs over 10 years. The plans include a new hotel, supermarket, leisure facilities and residential property plus a knowledge and education-oriented Innovation Zone development. As elsewhere many of these plans have been delayed due to the recession.
