The TDS and NRLA release a guide on mould and damp in the PRS

The Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) and the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) have joined forces to launch a valuable guide addressing the critical issue of damp and mould in privately rented homes. This guidance comes in response to the latest guidelines issued by the Government, emphasising the importance of ensuring safe and healthy living environments for tenants in the PRS.

The guide, relevant for landlords, agents and tenants aims to provide essential information to better understand and address this common issue.

Steve Harriott, CEO at the TDS Group, comments: "Addressing mould and damp issues in rental properties is not just a legal obligation, it's a necessary responsibility we hold towards ensuring the well-being of our tenants. And, beyond compliance, tackling these problems quickly is a crucial step in having homes that foster good health and quality living conditions. By collaborating with the NRLA on this guide, we want to empower the community with knowledge and practical solutions to address mould and damp.”

Key features of the guide include: Highlighting potential health risks associated with mould, clarifying the different types of damp and mould, and explaining the updated legal obligations for landlords based on the latest Government guidelines.
